Pakistan Denies Breach, Says It Remains Committed to Kashmir Truce

Date:

In a recent development concerning the longstanding Kashmir conflict, Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to the ceasefire agreement with India, following allegations from New Delhi accusing Islamabad of violating the truce. The ceasefire, brokered by the United States, was established to de-escalate tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations.

The ceasefire agreement came into effect after a series of military confrontations, including a significant incident on May 10, 2025, when Pakistani forces launched retaliatory strikes against Indian military positions. This action followed Indian missile strikes in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 Indian tourists. The terrorist group responsible for the attack, the Resistance Front, is believed to have ties to Pakistan-based militant organizations.

Despite the ceasefire, reports indicate that sporadic clashes have continued along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border between the two countries. For instance, on February 13, 2025, Pakistani troops reportedly violated the ceasefire by engaging in unprovoked firing on Indian posts in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army responded, inflicting heavy casualties on the Pakistani side.

In response to these allegations, Pakistan has maintained that it is committed to upholding the ceasefire agreement. Pakistani officials have called for restraint and emphasized the importance of dialogue to resolve outstanding issues. However, the persistence of cross-border incidents has raised concerns about the durability of the ceasefire and the potential for renewed hostilities.

The international community has expressed apprehension over the fragile peace in the region. Analysts warn that continued violations could lead to a full-scale conflict between India and Pakistan, both of which possess nuclear arsenals. The United Nations has urged both nations to engage in direct talks and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions further.

As the situation develops, it remains to be seen whether the ceasefire will hold or if the region will once again be plunged into conflict. The commitment of both India and Pakistan to the truce will be crucial in determining the future stability of Kashmir and the broader South Asian region.
