Hansi Flick Reflects on Barcelona’s ‘Chaotic’ Clásico Victory, Urges Defensive Improvement

Date:

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick expressed mixed emotions following his team’s dramatic 4–3 comeback victory over Real Madrid in the latest El Clásico. Despite the win putting Barcelona seven points clear at the top of La Liga with only three matches remaining, Flick emphasized the need for defensive improvements.

A Thrilling Encounter

The match at the Santiago Bernabéu saw Barcelona recover from a 0–2 deficit, with goals from Eric García, Lamine Yamal, and a brace by Raphinha. Kylian Mbappé completed his hat-trick for Madrid, and debutant Victor Muñoz had a last-minute chance to equalize, but Barcelona held on for their fourth Clásico win of the season. The victory brings Barcelona closer to securing a domestic double in Flick’s debut season.

Flick’s Assessment

Despite the positive result, Flick cautioned against complacency. He noted that the team’s defensive vulnerabilities were evident, having conceded three goals in each leg of their Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan. Flick praised the team’s offensive capabilities, with 95 league goals scored, but acknowledged the emotional toll of the match, stating, “I need to check my heart.”

Looking Ahead

With the La Liga title within reach, Barcelona’s focus shifts to improving their defensive stability. Flick’s tactical approach, characterized by a high defensive line and coordinated pressing, has revitalized the team, but the recent defensive lapses highlight areas for refinement. As the season nears its conclusion, Barcelona aims to solidify their position at the top and secure the title.
